Ingredients

Scale

Base

  • 1 pizza crust (pre-made or homemade)

Protein

  • 1/2 lb ground beef or turkey
  • 1 tablespoon taco seasoning

Beans

  • 1/2 cup refried beans or black beans (warmed)

Cheese

  • 1 cup shredded cheese blend (cheddar and mozzarella)

Fresh Toppings

  • 1/2 cup fresh tomatoes, chopped
  • 3 green onions, sliced
  • 12 jalapeños or mild peppers, sliced (optional)
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce

Finishing

  • 1/4 cup sour cream or Greek yogurt

Optional Additional Ingredients and Variations

  • Seasoned sautéed mushrooms or bell peppers (for vegetarian version)
  • Extra jalapeños, hot sauce, or crushed red pepper (for spicy kick)
  • Cauliflower crust or thin whole-wheat crust (low-carb option)
  • Grilled chicken, chorizo, or seasoned tofu (alternative proteins)
  • Corn kernels, sliced olives, diced red onions (extra veggies)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the seasoned meat: Brown the ground beef or turkey in a skillet over medium heat. When nearly cooked, stir in the taco seasoning and a splash of water. Allow the flavors to meld as the meat finishes cooking.
  2. Preheat oven and prepare crust: Preheat oven according to your pizza crust’s package instructions or to 425°F for homemade dough. Place the crust on a baking sheet or pizza stone prepared for toppings.
  3. Layer refried beans and meat: Spread an even layer of warmed refried or black beans over the crust to keep it moist and flavorful. Evenly distribute the seasoned meat on top of the beans.
  4. Add cheese and bake: Generously sprinkle the shredded cheese blend over the meat and beans. Bake the pizza in the preheated oven for 10–15 minutes, or until the crust is golden and cheese is bubbly and melted.
  5. Add fresh toppings: Remove pizza from oven and top with chopped tomatoes, green onions, sliced jalapeños (if using), and shredded lettuce. Finish with dollops of sour cream or Greek yogurt to add creaminess and balance the heat.

Notes

  • Use warm beans to help them spread easily and bake better.
  • Don’t overload toppings to avoid soggy crust from too many wet ingredients.
  • Customize taco seasoning salt, chili powder, and cumin ratios to suit your family’s spice tolerance.
  • Pre-cook raw veggies like mushrooms or bell peppers to prevent watery pizza.
  • Finish with fresh herbs such as cilantro or a squeeze of lime juice for added vibrant flavor.
