Peach Crumble

Peach Crumble is a classic summer dessert that features ripe, juicy peaches baked under a crispy, buttery crumble topping. This delightful treat balances the natural sweetness of fresh peaches with a warm cinnamon-spiced crust, creating a comforting and flavorful experience perfect for any occasion. Easy to make and incredibly satisfying, it’s delicious served warm with ice cream or chilled for a refreshing finish.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Peach Filling

  • 4 cups fresh ripe peaches, peeled and sliced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt

For the Crumble Topping

  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour (or almond flour/gluten-free flour for substitutions)
  • 3/4 cup rolled oats (certified gluten-free if needed)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed (or vegan butter/coconut oil for vegan option)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Peaches: Peel and slice the fresh peaches into even-sized pieces. In a bowl, toss the peaches with fresh lemon juice, brown sugar, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt. Allow the mixture to macerate slightly, releasing juicy flavors and creating a luscious base.
  2. Make the Crumble Topping: In a separate bowl, combine the flour, rolled oats, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Add the cold, cubed unsalted butter and work it into the dry ingredients using your fingers or a pastry cutter until the mixture resembles coarse breadcrumbs with some pea-sized pieces.
  3. Assemble and Bake: Transfer the peach mixture evenly into a baking dish. Sprinkle the crumble topping generously over the peaches. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 40-45 minutes until the topping is golden brown and the peach filling is bubbling.
  4. Cool and Serve: Let the peach crumble cool slightly for at least 15 minutes to thicken the filling and enhance the flavors. Serve warm, optionally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, or sprinkled toasted nuts.

Notes

  • Choose ripe peaches that are fragrant and soft but not mushy for optimal texture.
  • Use cold butter to ensure a crumbly, flaky topping instead of a soggy one.
  • Spread the peach filling and crumble topping evenly to ensure consistent baking.
  • Allow the crumble to rest for at least 15 minutes after baking for best texture and flavor melding.
  • Peach Crumble is best served warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for contrast.
