Ingredients

Scale

Proteins & Meats

  • 1 lb ground beef (lean or regular)
  • 68 bacon strips

Pasta & Vegetables

  • 912 lasagna noodles (classic or no-boil)
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 34 garlic cloves, minced

Cheeses

  • 1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • ¾ cup grated Parmesan cheese

Sauces & Fats

  • 2 cups tomato sauce (marinara or homemade)
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

Seasonings & Herbs

  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • 1 tsp dried Italian herbs (basil, oregano, thyme blend)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Bacon and Beef: Cook bacon strips in a large skillet over medium heat until crispy. Remove bacon and drain on paper towels. In the same skillet, add butter and olive oil, then sauté finely chopped onions and minced garlic in the bacon fat until fragrant and translucent. Add ground beef, season with salt, pepper, and Italian herbs, and cook until browned and crumbly. Drain any excess fat if necessary. Chop or crumble the cooked bacon and mix it with the beef.
  2. Cook the Lasagna Noodles: Boil lasagna noodles according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and rinse with cold water to prevent sticking. Lay noodles flat on a tray to cool.
  3. Mix the Cheese Blend: In a medium bowl, combine shredded mozzarella, cheddar, and grated Parmesan cheese to create a savory, creamy, slightly tangy cheese blend.
  4. Assemble the Layers: Grease a baking dish lightly. Spread a thin layer of tomato sauce on the bottom to prevent sticking. Place a single layer of noodles, then evenly spread half of the beef and bacon mixture over them. Sprinkle a generous amount of the cheese blend on top, then drizzle some tomato sauce over the cheese. Repeat with another layer of noodles, the remaining beef and bacon mixture, more cheese, and sauce. Finish with a final layer of noodles topped with remaining cheese.
  5. Bake to Perfection: Cover the lasagna dish with foil and bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake uncovered for an additional 15 minutes or until the cheese on top is bubbly and golden. Allow the lasagna to cool for 10-15 minutes before slicing to let the layers set properly.

Notes

  • Don’t overcook noodles; slightly undercooked noodles hold their shape better during baking and avoid mushiness.
  • Drain grease well from beef and bacon to prevent the dish from becoming too heavy or greasy.
  • Use fresh garlic instead of garlic powder for the best flavor impact.
  • Spread ingredients evenly in each layer to ensure balanced flavor and texture in every bite.
  • Allow the lasagna to rest post-baking to help the layers set, making slicing and serving cleaner.
