French Dip Biscuits

French Dip Biscuits

French Dip Biscuits are a warm, hearty, and flavor-packed twist on the classic French dip sandwich, featuring tender roast beef and melted cheese wrapped inside flaky biscuits. Perfectly paired with rich au jus dipping sauce, these quick and easy biscuits are ready in under 30 minutes, making them an ideal comforting meal or snack for any occasion.

Ingredients

Biscuits

  • Refrigerated biscuit dough (1 can or package, typically 8 biscuits)
  • Butter (2 tablespoons, melted, for brushing)
  • Garlic powder (optional, 1/2 teaspoon for sprinkling)

Filling

  • Thinly sliced deli roast beef (8 ounces)
  • Sliced cheese: Swiss or provolone (8 slices)

Au Jus Sauce

  • Au jus sauce mix (1 packet or equivalent beef broth concentrate)
  • Hot water (amount as per au jus package directions, usually 1 to 1 1/4 cups)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Your Ingredients: Preheat the oven according to the biscuit dough package instructions. Slice your cheese and set aside the roast beef and au jus sauce mix to keep everything ready for quick assembly.
  2. Assemble the Biscuits: Separate the biscuit dough and gently flatten each piece. Layer roast beef and a slice of cheese inside, then fold the dough over or sandwich the filling between two smaller flattened biscuit pieces. Seal the edges well to keep the filling inside during baking.
  3. Bake Until Golden: Place the assembled biscuits on a greased baking sheet. Brush the tops with melted butter and sprinkle garlic powder if desired. Bake for approximately 12 to 15 minutes or until the biscuits rise and turn golden brown.
  4. Prepare the Au Jus Sauce: While the biscuits bake, whisk together the au jus mix with hot water according to the package directions. Keep it warm so it is ready for dipping as soon as the biscuits come out of the oven.
  5. Serve and Enjoy: Remove the biscuits from the oven and let them cool slightly. Serve warm with a small bowl of au jus dipping sauce on the side for the perfect French Dip Biscuit experience.

Notes

  • Use quality deli roast beef for fresher, thinner slices that melt better and enhance flavor.
  • Do not overstuff the biscuits to avoid leaking during baking; keep fillings moderate.
  • Brushing biscuits with butter creates a shiny, golden crust with added texture and flavor.
  • Reheat leftovers gently in a 350°F oven or toaster oven to maintain crispiness; avoid microwaving.
  • Serve the au jus sauce warm in small dipping bowls to maximize flavor with every bite.
