Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 2 to 3 lbs chicken breasts or thighs
  • 1 packet ranch seasoning mix (about 1 oz)
  • 1 packet au jus gravy mix (about 1 oz)
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, cut into pieces
  • 68 pickled pepperoncini peppers, whole or sliced with juice
  • Slider buns (soft, small buns), enough for serving

Optional Extras

  • Cheese slices (pepper jack, cheddar, or your choice)
  • Extra pepperoncini peppers for topping
  • Fresh herbs (parsley or cilantro) for garnish
  • Diced jalapeños or hot sauce for added spice

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Crock Pot: Place the chicken breasts or thighs at the bottom of the slow cooker, ensuring they are spread evenly for best flavor absorption and juiciness.
  2. Add Seasonings and Ingredients: Sprinkle the ranch seasoning mix and au jus gravy mix evenly over the chicken. Dot the butter pieces on top, then scatter the pickled pepperoncini peppers across the meat, including some of their juice for tangy flavor.
  3. Slow Cook to Perfection: Cover the crock pot and cook on low for 6 to 8 hours or on high for 3 to 4 hours until the chicken is tender and easily shredded.
  4. Shred the Chicken: Remove the cooked chicken from the slow cooker and shred it with two forks. Return the shredded chicken to the crock pot and mix well with the cooking juices and peppers to maximize flavor.
  5. Assemble the Sliders: Place a generous amount of shredded chicken onto each slider bun. Add cheese slices if desired, then top with extra pepperoncini peppers or fresh herbs before serving.

Notes

  • Thighs offer more flavor and moisture, but breasts work well too.
  • Use real unsalted butter for the best silky texture; margarine is not recommended.
  • Don’t skip the pepperoncini peppers and their juice—they add the signature tangy zing.
  • Allow the seasonings to sit on the chicken for a few minutes before cooking to enhance flavor.
  • Toast or warm slider buns before assembling to prevent sogginess.
