Filling Ingredients

  • 1 cup creamy natural peanut butter (softened)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of sea salt (optional)

Coating Ingredients

  • 2 cups semi-sweet or dark chocolate chips or bars
  • Optional toppings: flaky sea salt, crushed roasted peanuts, colorful sprinkles, edible gold dust

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Peanut Butter Mixture: In a mixing bowl, combine softened butter, creamy peanut butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth and thoroughly incorporated, forming a thick yet pliable texture that holds its shape when molded.
  2. Shape into Hearts: Roll the peanut butter mixture into small balls, then carefully shape each into a heart either by hand or using a small heart-shaped mold. Place the shaped hearts on a parchment-lined tray and chill in the refrigerator for about 15 minutes to firm up.
  3. Melt the Chocolate: Gently melt the chocolate using a double boiler or microwave on medium power, stirring frequently to achieve a silky smooth texture and prevent burning or seizing.
  4. Dip the Hearts: Dip each chilled peanut butter heart into the melted chocolate using a fork or dipping tool. Lift carefully to let excess chocolate drip off, then place back on the parchment paper.
  5. Set and Decorate: Sprinkle with optional sea salt, crushed nuts, or sprinkles if desired. Refrigerate the dipped hearts until the chocolate coating is completely set, approximately 30 minutes.

Notes

  • Soft Ingredients Work Best: Ensure peanut butter and butter are softened to avoid lumps in the filling.
  • Chill Twice: Refrigerate the shaped hearts before and after dipping for cleaner, smoother results.
  • Use High-Quality Chocolate: Good quality chocolate melts better and provides a superior glossy finish and flavor.
  • Don’t Overheat Chocolate: Heat in short bursts and stir frequently to prevent burning or graininess.
  • Store in Airtight Containers: Keep moisture and odors away to maintain freshness and texture of the treats.
