Ingredients

Scale

Dough Ingredients

  • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ½ cup milk, warm (lukewarm)
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted and cooled
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Filling Ingredients

  • ¾ cup creamy peanut butter
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup chocolate chips or chunks (semi-sweet preferred)
  • ½ tsp cinnamon (optional)

Glaze / Frosting (Optional)

  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 12 tbsp milk
  • Optional: peanut butter-chocolate frosting for spreading

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: Warm the milk and melt the butter together until just warm to the touch. In a large bowl, sprinkle the yeast over the warm milk with a pinch of sugar and let it bloom until foamy, about 5-10 minutes. In another bowl, combine the flour, remaining sugar, and salt. Add eggs, vanilla extract, and the yeast mixture, then knead the dough until soft and elastic, about 8-10 minutes by hand or 5 minutes with a mixer. Cover the bowl with a towel or plastic wrap and allow the dough to rise in a warm place until doubled in size, roughly 1 hour.
  2. Create the Filling: In a medium bowl, mix the creamy peanut butter with brown sugar and cinnamon if using. Stir in the chocolate chips or chunks until evenly combined, forming a luscious filling mixture.
  3. Roll Out the Dough: After the dough has risen, gently punch it down to release air. On a floured surface, roll the dough into a large rectangle approximately 16×12 inches. Spread the peanut butter and chocolate filling evenly over the dough, covering it edge to edge for consistent flavor in every bite.
  4. Form the Rolls: Starting from one of the long edges, carefully roll the dough tightly into a log. Use a sharp knife to slice the roll into 12 equal portions. Place the rolls into a greased baking pan spaced evenly to allow room for the second rise. Cover and let rise for about 30 minutes until puffy and nearly doubled.
  5. Bake: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown and fragrant. Remove from oven and let cool slightly.
  6. Optional Glaze or Frosting: While the rolls are still warm, drizzle with a simple glaze made from powdered sugar mixed with milk or spread a peanut butter-chocolate frosting for added indulgence. Serve warm.

Notes

  • Warm liquids carefully to avoid killing the yeast – keep milk and butter lukewarm.
  • Don’t skip the second rise; it is essential for light, fluffy rolls.
  • Roll the dough tightly but gently to achieve beautiful swirls without squeezing out the filling.
  • Use good-quality creamy natural peanut butter for the best flavor and ease of spreading.
  • Watch the baking time closely to keep rolls soft but fully cooked.
