Ingredients

Scale

Filling Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups cooked chicken breast, shredded or chopped
  • ½ cup marinara sauce
  • ½ cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • ¼ cup Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning (basil, oregano, garlic mix)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Dough and Topping

  • 1 package (about 1 lb) pizza dough
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (for brushing)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Chicken Filling: Season the cooked chicken breast with salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning. Shred or chop the chicken into bite-sized pieces. Gently mix the chicken with marinara sauce, half of the mozzarella cheese, and half of the Parmesan cheese to create a flavorful, cheesy filling.
  2. Roll Out the Dough: On a lightly floured surface, roll the pizza dough into 8 to 10-inch circles, ensuring the dough is thick enough to hold the filling without overwhelming the flavors.
  3. Fill and Fold: Place a generous scoop of the chicken mixture onto one half of each dough circle, leaving a border around the edges for sealing. Fold the other half over the filling and press the edges firmly together to seal the calzone, preventing leaks during baking.
  4. Brush with Olive Oil and Bake: Lightly brush the top of each calzone with olive oil to create a golden, crispy crust. Bake in a preheated oven at 425°F (220°C) for 15-20 minutes, or until the calzones puff up and turn golden brown.
  5. Serve Warm: Remove the calzones from the oven and allow them to cool for 5 minutes to let the filling set. Slice and serve warm with additional marinara sauce for dipping.

Notes

  • Don’t overfill the calzones to prevent bursting during baking.
  • Seal the edges tightly using a fork or fingers to avoid sauce leakage.
  • Use fresh mozzarella cheese for better melting and texture.
  • Let the calzones rest after baking to avoid burning and help filling set.
  • Brushing olive oil on top creates a crisp crust and prevents dryness.
